Happy Thanksgiving!
We hope you’re enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday today with lots of good food, friends and family. A few members of the LinkTrust team shared some of their favorite parts of Thanksgiving with us.
Frank Ouimette remembered: “Cranberry sauce is my favorite! I remember having a lonely Thanksgiving in Germany while on Active Duty in the Army. Our mess hall (the place where we all ate) had all the fixings for a turkey dinner and such but only a small number of soldiers, that didn’t have any local German family sponsors or were not on vacation, showed up (including myself). It definitely brought to light how far away from family and friends I was.”
Mindy Brown shared: “My mom would always cook the turkey through the night and so we would wake up to the smell of turkey and my dad would always love to watch the Macey’s day parade. More recently we have started a Tradition of watching Polar Express after dinner. We also have a tradition of make little German cookies called Gaulettes (pronounced Gofflets). We all go early in the morning the day after Thanksgiving and mix the dough. After it sits all day, we go that night for a family party. The dough is rolled into little balls and cooked on old waffle irons that were brought here from Germany by our ancestors.”
Nate Richins is grateful “to live in this country because even when its bad it’s still really good! To wake up every morning, have my freedom, experience life and to be able to choose how to take any challenges it may bring.”
Jody Sears relates this Thanksgiving memory:
“My most memorable Thanksgiving food was the year that one of the little grandmunchkins walked by my mom’s stove (back in the days when the temp control was just above the oven door handle) and turned the control down to 200. Hours later my dad walks in the kitchen and says “I thought we’d be smelling that turkey by now!” It was about an hour before we were suppose to eat – with 35 very hungry family members dreaming of the turkey and stuffing! The turkey was barely warm! Needless to say, we found my dad slicing pieces of turkey off – one by one – while my mom microwaved each piece until there was enough for us to sit down and eat! Pulled out a some “Stove Top Suffing” and we tried to sit down and make it all work! Then to top it all off – my mom had accidently put tablespoons instead of teaspoons of salt in all 8 pumpkin pies-HORRIBLE! We all had to try and share the remaining two cherry pies! It is a Thanksgiving we all still laugh about – wasn’t very funny at the time!”
Lee Crain can’t get enough of his wife’s pecan pie.
Christina Dessi said: “Stuffing! It’s the best. Also, I remember the first year I made a turkey. It was one of the best turkeys I had ever had at thanksgiving.”
Sarah Borden is sure that “the best part of the Thanksgiving meal is the mashed potatoes and gravy.”
Bret Grow got straight to the point: “The most memorable food is Pumpkin Pie! It is the best food on the planet and needs no explanation!”
Here at LinkTrust we are thankful for all of you! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
